THE GOOD FIGHT - Track 1 Video

My new live CD "The Clarke Hall Sessions" was recorded during one magical day in Clarke Memorial Hall in Port Credit, Ontario.  Here is the first track, THE GOOD FIGHT.

- BEHIND THE SONG -
During a writing trip to Nashville last year, I was woken up at 3 am by a melody whispering in my ear. Reluctantly, I got out of bed and tried my best to follow the song.  I wasn't able to finish the song during that encounter but it stayed under my skin for the next couple of weeks, regularly waking me up in the wee hours of the morning. It was like the song was teaching me what it was about, that fighting for what feels true, whether in a song or in a relationship, is painful and hard.

Click to watch the video of the song with the soulful Justin Abedin on electric guitar.  As with most of the songs on this record, it was captured in one take and it felt really good.  I hope you enjoy it. I love hearing where the song resonates so dash me a note if you feel inclined.

Thanks to the folks who have already jumped in and pre-ordered the CD.  It really helps towards the ongoing costs of the recording - mixing and CD manufacturing.  Click here to Pre-Order.  Tickets are also on sale for the CD release concert on Saturday April 23rd.  Hope you can join us.

- LYRICS -
There's a fire and a beauty in your eyes
When we kiss between the blame and the compromise
Go dancing round the anger in the dark
I'm holding you like dynamite waiting for the spark

We make love we make pain and stir it up again
But if we're both in the battle we're alive
You raise your voice, I speak my mind
It takes courage in the trenches to survive every tear
Sometimes we have to go to war,
Fight the good fight, it's a love worth fighting for

There's a strength beneath your shoulders and your hands
That keeps carrying the wounds the best you can
If you peel off those fatigues around your heart
Let me pull you closer, we can share the scars

We make love we make pain and stir it up again
But if we're both in the battle we're alive
You raise your voice, I speak my mind
It takes courage in the trenches to survive every tear
Sometimes we have to go to war,
Fight the good fight, it's a love worth fighting for

There is no victory, no defeat
No giving up just to keep the peace
I don't care if we're loving or fighting,
Just as long as it's me and you
And we're both fighting for the truth

We make love we make pain and stir it up again
But if we're both in the battle we're alive
You raise your voice, I speak my mind
It takes courage in the trenches to survive every tear
Sometimes we have to go to war,
Fight the good fight, it's a love worth fighting for
